Hi there! Welcome to my blog about the Ice Castles in Colorado! This is one of our family’s favorite activities during the winter in Colorado. We usually go to the location in Cripple Creek, and it’s always super fun. Please don’t forget to dress accordingly to have all the fun and keep the little ones warm.

Ice Castles

Since 2011, Ice Castles has been making magical places that people remember for years. Each visit is full of fun and excitement, with ice slides, crawl tunnels, glowing archways, and sparkling ice caves. Everything is made with so much care, and it feels like stepping into a winter wonderland. My family loves going! The kids have so much fun they never want to leave, even when tired.

The story of Ice Castles started with Brent Christensen, a dad of six kids. When his family moved from sunny California to snowy Utah, he wanted to find a way to keep his kids busy during the cold winters. So, he built an ice cave in his backyard. What started as a fun project for his kids became a big hit with the neighborhood. Kids from all over came to play in what they called the “ice castle.”

Soon, Christensen realized he had created something special. Over time, Ice Castles grew from his backyard to become a popular winter attraction in places like Colorado, Minnesota, New Hampshire, and more. The ice artists carefully build amazing creations by hand, using thousands of icicles.

Even though Ice Castles has gotten bigger, their mission hasn’t changed. They still want to bring joy and help families make special winter memories. Whether you’re sliding on the ice, crawling through tunnels, or just enjoying the beauty of the glowing ice, Ice Castles is a magical place for everyone to enjoy. If you’re looking for something fun and unforgettable this winter, you should definitely visit!

Cripple Creek, Colorado

This is our favorite spot since we live in Parker. We love the drive, and we always visit during the day because of our little ones. It’s an award-winning frozen attraction that comes back every year. You can find it at 339 Irene Avenue, and it’s open this season from December 19, 2024, to March 10, 2025.

The Ice Castles are built completely by hand, with thousands of icicles carefully placed by professional ice artists. It’s always amazing to see, and it never fails to impress me, even after years of making it a family tradition. Visitors can enjoy glowing sculptures, ice tunnels, slides, fountains, and more. It’s a magical experience for kids and grown-ups alike!

Parking is super easy, with spots available on Irene Avenue and 4th Street, just south of the Ice Castles. There are two parking lots on 4th Street, one on each side, so it’s a short and easy walk to the fun.

Eagle, Colorado

We haven’t been to this location yet, but they’ve recently expanded to Eagle and are open for the 2024-2025 winter season! It’s located at the Eagle County Fairgrounds, 794 Fairgrounds Road. This new spot has ice tunnels, caves, towers, fountains, and slides, all lit up with colorful LED lights that make the ice glow.

Construction started in late October, with a team of about 20 ice artists hand-placing thousands of icicles to create this amazing frozen wonderland. It opened in late December and will stay open until early March, as long as the weather cooperates. Tickets for the season are are available since November 26, 2024, and you can grab them on the Ice Castles website.
