The trail is surrounded by pine trees and offers wide-open views of the hills and countryside. It’s peaceful, quiet, and feels like a little escape without having to drive far. The trail is manageable for most ages and skill levels, making it a great option for families with younger kids or grandparents visiting.
You might see deer along the path, and sometimes even horseback riders passing through. It’s a great way to unplug, get some fresh air, and spend time talking while you walk.
As a photographer, this is also one of my favorite locations for family and high school senior sessions. The open space and golden sunset light create the most beautiful backdrop.
Festival Park

The Edge Zipline and Adventures (Kids 8+)
The EDGE Zipline & Adventures is a great option for families with older, adventurous kids. Participants must be at least 8 years old, and it’s a paid activity, but it looks like an unforgettable experience.
If your kids love excitement and trying new challenges, this could be a fun weekend activity. We’ve watched people ziplining while visiting nearby Philip S. Miller Park, and it always looks like such a blast.

Public Library
Douglas County Libraries – Castle Rock is one of my favorite indoor activities in Castle Rock, especially during cold winters or rainy afternoons.
The space is calm, welcoming, and perfect for reading, studying, or just taking a quiet break from busy schedules. My kids love picking out books, coloring, and playing in the children’s area. We almost always leave with a stack of books to enjoy at home.
The library also offers programs and events for children, teens, and adults throughout the year. It’s a wonderful (and free!) way to encourage learning while spending quality time together.
Crave Burger in Castle Rock
Crave Real Burgers might not be the first thing you think of when searching for things to do in Castle Rock with kids — but after a full day of exploring, sometimes the best plan is a good meal together.
This is one of our go-to family spots when the kids start asking for cheeseburgers before heading home. They offer classic options along with creative, unique burger combinations. Everything is made with high-quality ingredients, and the burgers are always juicy and flavorful.
The fries are crispy, the staff is friendly, and it’s an easy place to relax after a busy day.
