As a family and senior photographer, one of my favorite things is exploring new places wherever I go, and Colorado Springs has so many hidden gems and family-friendly spots to discover.
This city offers a mix of outdoor adventures, educational experiences, and unforgettable attractions that kids and adults alike will love. From breathtaking natural parks to interactive museums and even unique historical sites, there’s something for every family to enjoy.
In this post, I’m sharing some of my favorite spots to visit with my own family. These are places where we make memories, take lots of photos, and enjoy time together while exploring something new. Plus, many of these locations are perfect for families who want a mix of fun, learning, and adventure.

Things to do in Colorado Springs
The Broadmoor Seven Falls
Broadmoor Seven Falls is such a beautiful place in the Colorado Rockies. This series of seven waterfalls flows along South Cheyenne Creek in South Cheyenne Cañon. In addition, the area is surrounded by trees, flowers, and rocky cliffs, which make it a peaceful and relaxing spot to explore.
Families can hike the scenic trail that winds along the waterfalls. Along the way, you’ll see smaller waterfalls, bridges, and viewpoints that are perfect for photos. If hiking isn’t ideal, there’s a convenient elevator that takes visitors partway up for an easier experience.
Manitou Cliff Dwelings
The Manitou Cliff Dwellings are a privately owned attraction that lets families step back in time. These homes were built by the Ancestral Puebloans long ago and were carefully moved and rebuilt at this location.
Families can walk through the rooms and see how people lived hundreds of years ago. In addition, the dwellings show the culture and building style of the time.
It’s a fun and educational experience for kids and adults. You can touch some of the artifacts, explore the rooms, and imagine what life was like for the people who lived there.
Cheyenne Zoo
Cheyenne Mountain Zoo is a fun spot for families. It’s located on the side of Cheyenne Mountain and is home to over 750 animals from more than 170 species around the world. The zoo is built in levels, so as you walk through the exhibits, you can enjoy amazing views of the mountains and the city below.
In addition to the giraffes, the zoo has lions, tigers, elephants, and many more animals to see. Kids will love the interactive areas, like the petting zoo and the playground. One of the most popular activities is feeding the giraffes—a fun experience that everyone in the family can enjoy.
Plus, the zoo offers daily shows and animal demonstrations, which are both entertaining and educational. My kids love this zoo, and we visit this attraction often.
Garden of the Gods
Garden of the Gods is a beautiful natural park and one of the most famous landmarks in Colorado Springs. It is known for its huge red rock formations, which have been shaped by wind and water over many years.
There are lots of trails to explore, and you can enjoy amazing views of Pikes Peak and the Rocky Mountains. Families can go for a walk, take photos, or even try some easy rock climbing.
My family and I love going there. It’s one of our favorite spots to spend time outdoors. Plus, every time we have friends or family visiting from overseas, we always take them to Garden of the Gods. It’s a must-see and a great way to show off the beauty of Colorado!
Cave of the Winds
Cave of the Winds in Manitou Springs is a fun underground adventure for families. Guided tours take you through beautiful limestone caves filled with stalactites, stalagmites, and other interesting rock formations.
You also learn about how the caves were formed and their history. My five-year-old needed a little encouragement at first, but older kids and adults will love exploring the caves. It’s a great way for families who enjoy a bit of adventure to spend time together.
Ghost Town Museum
The Ghost Town Museum lets families step back in time to the Old West. The museum has saloons, stores, blacksmith shops, and other buildings that make it feel like a real frontier town.
You can walk through the streets, touch artifacts, and imagine what life was like for pioneers. I visited the museum before I had kids, and now I’m excited to take my children there this winter. It’s fun, hands-on, and a great way for the whole family to learn about history.
The U.S. Olympic & Paralympic Museum in Colorado Springs celebrates American athletes and their amazing accomplishments. The museum has interactive exhibits that let visitors try different sports and learn about the Olympic and Paralympic Games.
It’s inspiring for kids and adults alike. My family loves visiting because we leave feeling motivated and excited. It’s also a fun way to learn about hard work, determination, and teamwork—all while having a great time together.
